Organic Development Finance (ODF) has provided financing to Lyon Agro, a Ghanaian agribusiness driving systemic change in the soy value chain through responsible production, efficient processing and fair engagement with farmers. Currently, less than 10% of the approximately 350,000 tonnes of soybeans produced in Ghana are processed domestically, with the remaining 75% being exported as raw beans. There is therefore a significant opportunity for local value creation, and this is precisely where Lyon Agro steps in. The company supports over 1,000 soybean farmers growing organic soybeans across 10,000+ acres in Ghana’s northern region.

Technical Assistance to Farmers
Lyon Agro provides its farmers with extensive technical assistance in the form of in-kind products, such as threshers, inoculants and sacks, as well as services like biochar programs, agronomic advice and demonstration plots.

No Deforestation in the Supply Chain
Lyon Agro operates within a landscape that maintains its natural vegetation and supports a deforestation-free supply chain. Lyon Agro will be EUDR compliant.

Organic Farming
Lyon Agro promotes organic farming practices which prioritise soil health and biodiversity while excluding the use of chemicals.
