Strengthening Specialty Coffee, Strengthening Farmer Livelihoods

Organic Development Finance (ODF) has provided financing to CENFROCAFE, a Peruvian coffee cooperative that plays a central role in the organic specialty coffee value chain by supporting smallholder farmers, strengthening processing infrastructure, and enabling access to international markets.

Since its foundation in 1999, CENFROCAFE has grown from an organisation of 220 producers to a network of 1,824 active members spanning 124 associations and covering over 5,000 hectares. By organising farmers into associations with lead representatives, the cooperative is able to streamline its operations while maintaining strong engagement with its members.

Farmer-centric cooperative model
Cenfrocafe organises farmers into associations and provides them with technical assistance and training to improve productivity, quality and income stability.

Integrated processing and quality control
Through its own processing plant, storage infrastructure and quality control systems, Cenfrocafe ensures consistent grading, sorting and preparation of coffee for export, while maintaining high quality standards across the value chain.

Access to markets and financial stability
By aggregating coffee from smallholders and facilitating exports to international buyers, Cenfrocafe enables market access, while structured payment terms and financing support farmers with timely cash flow and income security.
